With four decades of operational leadership behind her, from U.S. travel‑tech firms to facilities management, Mary Murphy has now focused her expertise at HaloCare.
Mary shares how HaloCare blends advanced technology with human connection, why innovation is essential in today’s healthcare landscape, and how a simple daily check-in can have a lasting impact on clients.
Can you share an overview of your career journey so far?
With over 40 years of cross-disciplinary leadership experience, I’ve built a career focused on operational excellence, strategic growth, and people development. Having held senior roles across high-tech travel companies, facilities management and multinational start-ups, my journey has spanned continents and business lifecycles-from early-stage ventures through to mergers and acquisitions.
I joined HaloCare in 2020 as COO. Now as the company is growing and the team is expanding, I have transitioned into the role of Chief People Officer, marking a strategic evolution in my career towards culture-led leadership. This role brings together my operational expertise and passion for people, encompassing HR strategy, talent development, executive partnership, customer engagement, field operations and innovation oversight. I work closely with the executive team to align organisational goals with a high-performing, inclusive culture.
My focus is now on enabling growth by empowering people-fostering environments where teams thrive, customers feel valued, and innovation drives meaningful impact.
What motivated you to transition into the healthcare sector and join HaloCare?
I’ve had a lot of involvement with older people throughout my life including looking after grandparents and caring for sick relatives. Joining HaloCare and stepping into the healthcare technology space was a natural shift for me. I was looking for a role that aligned more closely with my values and desire to make a real impact. HaloCare ticked all the right boxes. I saw immediately how its mission – to help people remain in their own homes for longer was not just a goal, but something that could genuinely transform lives. I knew I wanted to be part of that journey from the beginning.
What truly drew me in was the real tangible difference HaloCare makes to the lives of our clients and their families. Every day, we hear feedback from people who feel safer, more connected, and more supported because of our services. In fact, some clients even bring their HaloPad with them to hospital, just so they don’t miss their daily comfort call with our Care Hub team. That kind of truth and emotional connection really says it all.
I was excited by the potential – by what we could build, and how we could enhance the daily lives of those we support.
"It’s incredible to see how technology, when applied thoughtfully, can engage people who may have previously shielded away from it"
Many of our clients now use their HaloPad confidently to reach out to us, something they may never have imagined doing before. Their families are able to share family photo’s, on the HaloPad which makes them feel more connected.
We often take human interaction for granted, but that’s not always the case. For many elderly individuals. HaloCare provides vital social connection, reassurance, and dignity which is really important to the individual Our services are designed to be discreet and non-intrusive, supporting independence while giving peace of mind to both clients and their families.
The Circle of Care app is another powerful aspect – it keeps family members informed, sharing updates after comfort calls or alerting them if something’s not quite right. They can also see activity logs, giving visibility into their loved one’s day-to-day wellbeing.
Being part of HaloCare means being part of something truly special. We’re not just providing a service – we are helping extend the time our clients can safely and happily spend at home. And that is something families deeply appreciate.
Why is innovation in the healthcare sector so important?
Since we started HaloCare, innovation has never been more critical because there are so many challenges now in the healthcare sector. We are an ageing population and healthcare resources are stretched further than ever before, therefore innovative solutions are essential.
At HaloCare, we’re committed to bridging the gap through smart technology. Our solutions provide that peace of mind to the family by identifying subtle but important changes in daily patterns. For example, if a client begins waking multiple times during the night – this is often a sign of a developing urinary tract infection – our system detects this unusual behaviour. By alerting the family early, they can intervene before it escalates, potentially avoiding hospital visits or emergency care.
“We recently received a heartfelt call from one of our client’s Circle of Care, She thanked the Care Hub team for their patience and kindness, sharing how much her mum looks forward to the daily comfort calls – so much so that she knows the team by name.
She shared how HaloCare has been life-changing for them as a family as it allows her mum to live independently, knowing that our technology will be able to alert the team if her mum needs any assistance. She described the comfort call as ‘invaluable’ as it ensures her mum has company throughout the day .
This is what makes it all worthwhile and why we do what we do"
HaloCare is an excellent solution for individuals who wish to live independently while maintaining peace of mind and safety. It works seamlessly alongside family support adding an extra layer of support that is both discreet & effective.
With our 24/7 model, we are always there-quietly in the background, ready when needed. The technology we have adopted is not just innovative; it’s the future of home-based care.
Have you noticed any really big changes in how healthcare is delivered since beginning with HaloCare in 2020?
Since joining HaloCare in 2020, I’ve witnessed a remarkable evolution – not only in how we operate as a company but in how healthcare is being delivered overall. The growth has been incredible. We’ve made significant investments in developing our own proprietary software, and it’s inspiring to see how far we have come. What sets us apart is our commitment to continuous improvement, guided by real-time data that helps us respond proactively to our client’s needs.
“I think by integrating smart technology with compassionate care, we are helping to create a more responsive and dignified experience for older people – individuals who deserve to feel valued and supported in their later years"
What sets HaloCare apart in the health technology sector?
HaloCare is proud to be a leader in the HealthTech space, offering a unique and deeply human solution. What makes us unique is the 24/7 support we provide through a blend of cutting-edge technology and genuine human connection.
Our technology enables early detection of health concerns by monitoring patterns and behaviours in the home. Whether it’s changes in sleep routines, signs of potential illness or movement patterns for someone living with dementia, our devices – including the HaloGo Watch and the Circle of Care App – give families peace of mind while helping clients remain safe and independent.
But technology is only part of our story.
Take social wellbeing. Many people experience loneliness, often unnoticed in the rush of everyday life. That is where our Comfort Call stands out – it’s that daily voice on the other end of the HaloPad/Phone that offers not just check-ins but genuine companionship.
But I have to admit, to me, one of our greatest strengths is our Care Hub team. They go above & beyond to build a very meaningful relationship with clients. For them, it’s personal. We recently had a moment that really touched all of us – the Care Hub team gathered round to sing happy birthday to a client who is caring for his seriously ill wife. There were tears in his eyes. That simple act meant the world to him. It’s moments like these that really reflect who we are.
When clients return home from hospital, we are there. We remain attentive to their emotional and physical wellbeing, checking in if something does not seem right, or if they simply need a little extra support.
The feedback we receive from families is constant and overwhelmingly positive. Knowing we’ve made a difference in someone’s day – or helped to keep them safe – is deeply fulfilling.
Our founder’s belief in our mission has been unwavering. They are incredibly proud of what HaloCare has become and the lives we’ve touched.
Because at the heart of it all, HaloCare isn’t just about smart technology – it’s about preserving dignity, nurturing connection, and redefining what it means to be able to remain in their own home.
