HaloCare adopts Assistive Technology solutions to make independent living at home possible, but what makes the solution so special for both our clients and their families, is being able to reap the benefits of health technology, without losing human interaction.
Globally, it’s reported that, 1 in 4 people experience loneliness and loneliness not only impacts our emotional wellbeing but can have severe consequences on our physical wellbeing.
How does HaloCare put the human touch into care at home?
A common concern whenever putting a technological solution in place is the idea that the technology will be used to replace all social interactions. The HaloCare solution does quite the opposite, and has been developed to enhance connections and tackle social isolation for those living independently at home.
Comfort Calls from the Care Hub
HaloCare clients have the option to opt in for a daily ‘comfort call’, where they will be contacted for a chat by a member of the Care Hub team. Comfort calls can be carried out on the phone or via the HaloPad.
Offering daily comfort calls helps tackle social isolation, particularly for those at risk of loneliness or seclusion.
For family members that are juggling work, family, and other commitments, knowing their loved ones are receiving a daily comfort call can bring great peace of mind.
Bridging the gap between Smart Devices and people
Smart Devices or contactless sensors can be located in a client’s home. Smart Devices have various benefits such as long-lie detection, door management, and can also contain an emergency panic button. They are often added to rooms in which frequent falls happen such as the bedroom or bathroom.
Smart Devices work quietly in the background, and if the client needs additional support, the Care Hub team will be alerted. The combination of Smart Devices and the Care Hub team, means the client can live independently with the peace of mind that help is never far away.
*Example Case Scenario.
Here’s an example of how HaloCare can support your loved one at home and help them maintain their independence. John is a fictional client who wants to stay in his own home as he ages.
John is 88 and wishes to live independently but his family are concerned as he has early-stage dementia and can be prone to wandering. The family worry that living in a care home would be the best option for John, as if he wanders, they will not know until later, or living at home alone he could be more prone to accidents.
Here’s how HaloCare could help. As John wishes to live independently, it’s vital that we give him the privacy and dignity he deserves. HaloCare Smart Devices would be installed by a member of our HaloCare team, giving John the chance at the installation stage to answer any questions or concerns he might have and put his mind at ease. The HaloCare Appliance Management solution can be added to areas of Johns home, such as taps, the fridge, microwave etc. This means the Care Hub will know if John has used the appliance and indicate if John has gotten up and eaten. As wandering is a big concern for the family, HaloCare can offer its door management solution which means the Care Hub team will be alerted if doors are left open or if doors are opened at usual times, such as the middle of the night.
For individuals like John, who may be at risk of wandering, going for a walk can cause understandable concern for their loved ones. With the HaloGo Watch, which is powered by GPS and geolocation technology, HaloCare can quickly identify the wearer’s location when needed. The watch also features an S.O.S. button that, when pressed, shares this information directly with the Care Hub team providing peace of mind to John's Circle of Care that help is never too far away, even when outside the home.
Using the Circle of Care App, John’s family will be able to easily stay up to date on John’s daily activities, anywhere in the world, without intruding on his privacy. They know John is safe at home and hasn’t wandered out by himself.
