Supporting privacy and dignity at home involves creating an environment where individuals feel respected, secure, and valued. The Health Information and Quality Authority summarizes that core human rights include:
- Fairness
- Respect
- Equality
- Dignity
- Autonomy
Our mission at HaloCare is to empower people of all ages and abilities to live quality, independent lives in their own homes, supported by innovative technology and passionate, caring people.
As part of our mission, we’ve invested in technologies that will best support our clients while maintaining independence as best as possible.
How does HaloCare support privacy and dignity at home?
Encourages autonomy
HaloCare supports clients to take control of their care, adopting Vital Sign Monitoring technology which provides a homecare solution that records vital signs without the need for in-person visits. HaloCare Vital Sign Monitoring technology includes
- Body temperature monitors,
- Blood pressure monitors,
- Pulse Oximeters.
Having this information in allows clinicians to have the data needed to make decisions around the client's health. Clients can be a part of the conversation about the best route of care for themselves. Being able to record vitals from the comfort of home allows both the client and the clinician to keep track of well-being and how well treatments are working from home.
Long-lie detection
HaloCare sensors are camera-free, they work by learning the individual’s environment using motion detection, picking up the client’s daily movements to learn the client's routine.
Understanding the client’s daily routine means that should anything out of the ordinary be detected, for example a prolonged period without movement, the sensors will alert the Care Hub team who will then reach out to the client to check on their wellbeing.
Using motion detection as opposed to cameras allows clients to have the peace of mind that HaloCare is available for support if needed, without feeling like their movements are being monitored.
Keeps clients socially connected
Using the HaloPad, clients can make video calls and receive pictures, all at the swipe of a button. Clients can also browse the web and access their favourite newspapers or listen to the radio using the HaloCare radio feature, ensuring that the individual is able to enjoy their free time at home.
Family members or friends can also join the HaloPad, by request, through the Circle of Care Companion App.
The HaloPad provides one central location where clients can stay connected to their loved ones, current affairs or any other topics of interest. Staying connected helps to prevent social isolation for those living independently.
HaloCare also offers clients the option to opt-in for a daily ‘comfort call’ from the Care Hub team. The Care Hub team will ring the client at a time that suits them, for an informal chat allowing them to enjoy speaking to a familiar voice each day. Having the option to opt-in for a comfort call helps to keep clients connected, while ensuring the client gets to choose when they socialize.
Supports environmental and personal safety
Staying safe at home doesn’t have to come at the cost of independence. The correct solution in place allows for comfortable, independent living with peace of mind that HaloCare is working quietly in the background.
HaloCare’s safety solution includes;
- Appliance management. Sensors can be added to various appliances in the home such as the oven, fridges or kettles to detect if appliances have been used or left on.
- Temperature management. HaloCare can detect changes in the temperature in the home as well as flood detection, vital for quick intervention.
- Panic buttons. Emergency panic buttons can be located anywhere throughout the home, including areas where falls are most frequent, such as the bedroom or bathroom. Once activated by pressing, the Care Hub team will be alerted and will intervene.
- Wearable fall detection. HaloCare fall detection devices with an S.O.S button also come in the form of watches and pendants for those who prefer a physical device to hand.
These solutions can be combined to create a package that keeps the client safe while being able to maintain independent living.
Helps with activities of daily living
HaloCare helps in a way that empowers rather than diminishes the individual's sense of independence. Assistive technology can support with activities of daily living such as;
- Nutrition and hydration,
- Medication management,
- Door management solutions,
- Appliance management i.e. ensuring appliances are not left on.
Supporting quietly in the background, HaloCare allows clients to continue on with their daily routine, while looking after their personal and environmental safety.
