Wearable Health Devices: A guide for those on their ageing journey

Wearable devices today such as smartwatches and pendant alarms have become discreet solutions that empower older adults to live independently, safely, and confidently. Wearables give older adults that peace of mind, that should they ever need it, help or support is never far away.

Some wearables can even detect abnormalities in vitals at those all-important early stages.

The Main Types of Wearables Available

Activity & fitness trackers: They count steps and distance, estimate calories, and remind you to move after long periods of sitting—perfect for older adults who might need a gentle remind to stay active.

Smartwatches: Smartwatches are wrist‑worn companions that blend timekeeping with smartphone‑like apps and health sensors.

Smart hearing aids: Smart hearing aids are hearing aids that can connect freely to other devices such as smartphones for a better improved day-to-day experience.

Safety pendants: Safety pendants hang around the neck or can clip onto a belt. They pinpoint location, detect falls, and typically have a S.O.S feature.

Smart rings: Like a smartwatch, smart rings monitor heart‑rate variability, skin temperature, and sleep stages.

HaloCare Wearable Solutions

HaloCare has several wearable solutions, designed to give clients the confidence to live independently while being safe. Our wearable solutions include:

  • HaloGo Watch: HaloGo is a wearable device with built-in GPS function, fall down sensors and alerts. HaloGo combines practicality and safety for a wearable solution that keeps loved ones safe.
  • HaloCare Pendent: The HaloCare Pendent has a built-in S.O.S feature that once pressed, will alert the Care Hub team. A member of the Care Hub team will then reach out to the client to ensure they are safe and will escalate further if required.
  • Vital Sign Monitoring: Vital signs are the body's way of signalling what’s happening internally. With HaloCare, body temperature, heart rate and blood pressure can all easily be collected via HaloCare’s Vital Sign Monitoring. These devices can record Vital Signs all from the comfort of home, the information is then shared with the client's clinician, making early detection of illnesses possible remotely.

Discreet solutions

For those who prefer not to use wearables, and favour a more discreet model of safety solution, HaloCare specialises in devices that have been developed to be non-intrusive including:

  • Motion detection sensors: HaloCare sensors are discreetly placed throughout the home with minimal disruption to the client's home. The sensors use motion detection to better understand what's happening in the home environment, such as when someone leaves or enters a room, or stays in one area for an unusual amount of time. If the contactless motion detection sensor detects no movement in the room, a notification is sent to the Care Hub who can then check in on the client.
  • Environment motioning & appliance management: HaloCare sensors can also track environmental factors, such as room temperature or can detect if taps have been left running, ensuring that the home environment is always safe and comfortable for the client.

HaloCare’s solution, made up of wearable and contact‑free technologies supports independent living without compromising dignity. Each solution has been developed to provide older adults with the confidence to live independently, knowing that whatever style of support is chosen, either wearable or contactless, the Care Hub team is never far away.
